Bio
Possessing innate creative artistic
abilities, AnaMaria Maestas-Wertz obtained a B.F.A. degree and graduate hours in Fine Arts
at Adams State College while also receiving a B.A. with K-l2 Art Certification and M.A.
degrees in Elementary Education. AnaMaria taught as a regular classroom and art teacher in
Denver, Antonito, and Alamosa, Colorado before become a full-time art teacher for the
Alamosa Public Schools.
Although a native of the San Luis Valley, AnaMaria has enjoyed living in various parts of the United States and has found that other exposure is immensely valuable especially in an artistic sense. She has found that experience in various professional careers has provided a broad perspective and a greater understanding of her fellow men/women. She has worked as a secretary, Instructional Services Coordinator, Licensed Practical Nurse, public school teacher and was trained as a U.S. Navy Air Traffic Controller.
All of her experiences have culminated in a greater sensitivity to draw upon and apply to her artwork. AnaMaria works primarily in oils, acrylics, colored pencils, and watercolors. She creates beadwork jewelry working with glass seed beads and larger semi-precious stones to create exquisite one-of-a-kind jewelry. She also designs different types of notecards.

As a visionary artist, AnaMaria gets her inspiration from her desire to raise the public awareness of the need to love and protect our Mother Earth. She self-published a book of her paintings dedicated to Mother Earth entitled Madre Tierra.
AnaMaria paints portraits and other subjects by commission.
AnaMaria Maestas Wertz is a native artitst of the San Luis Valley and currently resides in the foothills of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in the Baca Grande Deveopment in Colorado with her husband, Rick and pets.
